The Muskego Warriors are currently in the throes of defending their conference win last year. As of now, they are ranked in the top ten in the state of Wisconsin, and they are fighting to stay and rise even further. Many of the student athletes on the team this year are returning from their conference win last year as seniors. The team’s coach, Coach Capes, even states that we have a great group of senior coming back this year, and their dedication in class and great leadership skills illustrated that the team would be incredibly competitive this year, and thus be determined to do well on the courts. The five seniors on the team are friends on and off the court, the younger athletes see their companionship and this teaches them how to be teammates to one another. These younger athletes are all very talented as well and are getting better every day.

Coach Capes continued on to commend the players, starting with the returning seniors. Caleb Wagner, Matty Farner, and Tommy Anderson are captains, and along with Erik Henkel and Mike Frasher make up the starting line-up.  Caleb was an All-Conference player and one of the top players in the area last year. Matt Farner led the conference in rebounds last season and was Honorable Mention as well. Tommy Anderson is having a breakout season this year, and is currently second on the team in scoring.

The juniors are also contributing a lot to the team. Ben Schaefer has been a really good defensive player and has started several games. Will Herald and Jake Schienebeck are two talented post players who are really working hard and should contribute by the end of the season.  Ryan Wikel has become a great addition as a shooter off the bench, and Luke Horozewski rounds them out as an all around talent who has great toughness and hustle.

In addition, sophomores Rob Zolecki, AJ Makinen and Stu Vent are contributors to the team and an honor for Capes to coach.

When asked the team’s strengths, Capes replied, “We have a great group of team first players–They work together well. I think we also have an overall good shooting team, and have a solid offensive group. We have struggled defensively at times, but should improve in that part of the game.”

Finally, both JV and freshman teams are working hard this season — and Muskego should be stocked with many very talented athletes for the next several seasons. Keep supporting the Warriors while they continue on their journey to defend their conference title!
