Way to go WarriorBots

This years robotics team called WarriorBots #6421 consisting of 34 member works to design, prototype, build, and assemble a robot to compete in an international competition. They are given 6 weeks to design and build a robot to compete following the objectives and guidelines of the FIRST organization. (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). The requirements were extensive, they had to have a chassis requirement and a certain height. Those 6 weeks the team works nonstop to build the most ideal robot possible. The team is run by Captain, Tyler Dembosky, and Co-Captain, Jasmine Narine, who organize everything and come up with the plan on how to accomplish their goals for the competition. They also have a lead mentor who is an engineering and physics teacher: Mr. DeGlopper. These two people have a lot of responsibility and put tons of effort in to make the robotics team successful. They put together different groups that split up to work on different aspects of the robot and requirements that they had to follow. Everyone is very important in contributing to the team and together work for success at the competition. This year the team did have a few difficulties being only a second year team. Having only had a robotics team for two years now there was a lot of things that they were trying differently from last year, testing out new ideas. There was also clashing opinions which made it a challenge at times to agree on specific things for the robot. However despite failing at times, they worked together behind the common goal: to build a better future one gear at a time. The team goes to two competitions, the Wisconsin Regional one at UW-Milwaukee Panther arena the last week of March with 55 teams competing and the Midwest Regional in Chicago with 54 teams competing. The competitions are huge and last 3 days. Before the team competes they have to go through inspection to make sure they pass the requirements and if they don’t they are ineligible. Luckily for our robotics team they passed the requirements just fine. The goal is to make an ‘alliance’ with other teams and as groups of 3 fight in elimination rounds. The top alliance get invited to the National competition. While our team didn’t make it to Nationals, they did a fantastic job and it was overall very successful. The robotics team would like everyone to know that everyone is welcome and there is bound to be a place for everyone. Even if the building of the robot doesn’t interest you there are other aspects like business and public relations. They would love for the team to get even bigger next year.
