footballConfidence–a must-have when in the football season. We certainly had plenty of it this year, from the coaches, the players, as well as the fans. However, our confidence level started long before the season ever even started. As Assistant Coach Ryan Lucchesi stated, our varsity team this year is made up of many very talented and hard-working athletes, who have had their winning attitudes much of their lives and have complemented those mindsets with their hard-work in the off-season.

By the middle of the regular season, after we beat Catholic Memorial for the first time since we joined the Classic 8 Conference, it was known we were taking big steps in the right direction as far as the season was going. However, after the first and only loss in the regular season, one of the players told the team to “remember this feeling.” And since that loss, they vowed to keep bettering themselves and make sure it wouldn’t happen again–and it hadn’t.

Weeks later, after our defeat of the Arrowhead Warhawks in the Conference Championship game, our community as a whole was extremely proud and contented with their win. While we technically share the title with Arrowhead, we still can say we have the satisfaction of beating them in the Championship game.

When  asked, Coach Lucchesi pointed out a few of our key players that have been continuously standing out this season:

Ryan Albee–The most selfless player in the program. He switched from Tight end to Right Tackle over the summer and that switch has solidified our team. He has helped pave the way for the Classic 8 leading offense in scoring and rushing.

Caleb Wagner–Truly a winner. Coach Lucchesi admits that he wrote to the Waukesha Freeman in the preseason that he was the best-kept secret in football in the league. He also believes he may just be the best athlete in the entire Classic 8 Conference.

Austin “Augie” Lambrecht–Without question, he is the emotional leader of the defense. He has been a starting Linebacker for 3 years, and the passion in which he plays is an inspiration to his teammates. The growth he has made in the past 3 years is truly something to be proud of.

Caiden Ryg–The epitome of what happens when one works hard. He had the best offseason of any athlete in the program, and he completely dedicated himself in the weight room to adding strength and weight.  He is the most dynamic defensive player we have on our varsity football team.

In addition to commending those specific players, Coach also accredited the defensive and offensive lines to being the reason we finished the regular season with a 8-1 record. The offensive line–made up of seniors Ryan Tobin, Ryan Albee, Jake and Joe Zvonar, Erik Henkel, and Kevin Scherer, as well as juniors Tim Sprengel and Alex Kalisnig–have combined their size, smarts, athleticism, and toughness to pave the way for our conference’s lead in rushing and scoring. The defensive line–consisting of seniors Sam White and Jacob Larsen, as well as junior Jorin McGuire–make sure that our opponents flat out can’t run the ball against us.

As for the JV and Freshmen football teams, we continue to be very successful. Our two Freshmen teams went 5-2 and 6-1 respectively. Our JV enjoyed a 6-1 season as well. Making the lower levels 17-4 overall, 25-5 as a program freshman through Varsity. We should be very proud of these records because it is believed that the Classic 8 Conference may just be the toughest league in all of Wisconsin. This is all a product of great coaches at the Freshmen and Junior Varsity levels who devote their time and efforts for the betterment of our student-athletes. We also believe that our Youth Football program is the best in the state. Muskego Warrior football starts in 1st grade. It’s because of the efforts of all the people involved with these teams that we have enjoyed back-to-back Classic 8 Conference Championships on the varsity level.
