The Hate U Give Hits Theaters

Back in March, Warrior’s Word recognized the novel The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. The story focuses on Starr Carter, a black teenage girl, and sheds light on multiple controversial issues in modern American society, such as police brutality and racism. As mentioned in the previous article, The Hate U Give was adapted for the big screen and released in theaters on October 19th.

The movie, which closely follows the book, provides a dramatic and emotional visual that assists in sharing Starr’s story and her struggle with finding her voice, fitting in at school, and helping her community. Whether you prefer books or movies, there are now two options available that will both open viewers eyes to the other side of these issues that the media usually doesn’t cover. So if you have some free time this Thanksgiving break, go check out this movie and see what you think!
