Back in March, Warrior’s Word recognized the novel The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. The story focuses on Starr Carter, a black teenage girl, and sheds light on multiple controversial issues in modern American society, such as police brutality and racism. As mentioned in the previous article, The Hate U Give was adapted for the big screen and released in theaters on October 19th.

 The movie, which closely follows the book, provides a dramatic and emotional visual that assists in sharing Starr’s story and her struggle with finding her voice, fitting in at school, and helping her community.
