Therese Missiaen Commits to UW- Milwaukee!

Therese Missiaen, a senior at Muskego committed to UW-Milwaukee for diving! Therese is a multi sport athlete at Muskego but commits for diving. She has not been in diving for that long, ” I really only started diving sophomore year because I had a elbow surgery freshman year at the start of the season. But I have done gymnastics my whole life which helped a lot” said Missiaen.

Therese has been talking to coaches for recruiting but due to COVID Therese says,  “the NCAA did not allow any athletes and coaches to do in person recruiting, therefore I was not able to meet any of the coaches I have neem talking to. However, one of the coaches I currently have at my club diving, happens to be one the UWM dive coach. So I already know how he coaches, and having a good relationship with a coach was a big factor in my college decision. They also have the education I am looking for”.

Therese is a hardworking athlete and student, she has had many struggles with athletics do to injuries, there are some things that motivates Missiaen when she is diving. “I have had many injuries throughout my athletic career, which caused me to not be able to do gymnastics in college anymore. However, when I started diving, it was very similar in that I love flipping around in the air. Also, diving is a lot easier on your body than gymnastics and I have been able to mostly stay healthy during my dive seasons” says Therese. She also had her dreams and goals when it comes to college. “It has always been a dream of mine to do division 1 college athletics, so I was motivated towards that goal, and now I am motivated to be successful throughout my college career” Missiaen says.

With diving Therese has lots of rewards that she is proud of and some of her best highlights. Missiaen says “Winning conferences junior and senior year, winning sectionals senior year, qualifying to state all three years, placing third at state senior year, and setting the pool record for 6-dives and 11-dives senior year”, Therese has accomplished so much in those three years, and many more to accomplish at UW-Milwaukee!

Outside of diving Therese is planning on majoring in biochemistry and minor in psychology, “this is because I eventually want to get into medical school, so that sets me up well in the academic areas” said Therese.
