In Between the Lines by Jodi Picoult, author of Nineteen Minutes, and her daughter Samantha Van Leer is a wonderful book that tells about a fairy tale that continues even though the book is closed. “In Between the Lines” is a modern magical romance with a large amount of humor. It is about a girl named Delilah who has her head constantly in a book and one day she stumbles upon a children’s fairy tale book. The prince in the story, Oliver, wishes to get out of the story while Delilah wants in. Through this story’s twists and turns I was hooked from the second I turned the first page. It has a simple but unique plot line that is actually original. Jodi and Samantha’s writing style is similar to Alex Flinn’s (The author of Beastly.) Modern twists on classics are always enjoyable as long as they are executed well and I must say that this book was quite the show stopper. Recently Jodi Picoult and Samantha Van Leer came out with a sequel called ‘Off the Page’ that I am looking forward to reading and you should too! Luckily our library at Muskego High School has extended their list of authors and Jodi Picoult is one of the lucky authors whose books are now available at the library.
