The Psych Club, lead by Miss. Pyne, recently took a trip to the Elder Care Cottages of Wisconsin. There they painted pumpkins and read books to the residents, some of which having severe Alzheimer’s. All of the club had a very enjoyable experience working with the people living there, and they were able to learn very interesting information from Miss. Pyne about the psychological aspects of the residents’ lives. Overall, it was a great learning experience for the students, as well as an afternoon full of crafts for everyone there. Coming up in December, the club plans to return to the elder care cottages and do similar Christmas related activities with the people living there.

Updated: In December, Psych Club returned to the Elder Care Cottages, this time to sing Christmas songs with the residents. Ms. Pyne, the teacher in charge of the club, was very excited to explain how even the residents who could no longer speak were able to sing along with the students because the songs were still stored in their memory. Because the Elder Care Cottages were so thankful for their visit, they made a poster that many of the residents signed which is now hanging near Ms. Pyne’s classroom. Overall, both the students and the residents had a very enjoyable experience both times they were able to spend time with each other, and they are all thankful that Ms. Pyne was able to provide them with this opportunity.
