A Successful Season for Girls Varsity Tennis

Although the chilly fall has started to slowly move in, the girls Varsity tennis team continues to bring the heat as their season nears its end. This year the team has performed very well, with a record of 17-1 overall and a 6-1 conference record. Additionally, the girls won an 8 team invitational at Wauwatosa and a 16 team invitational at South Milwaukee. Coach Sue Vogel shared that 3 new freshman with years of previous experience in tournaments—#1 singles Elizabeth Sobieski, #2 singles Lauren Sobieski, and #4 singles Christina Pan—have played a big role in the team’s success this season.

Also new to the Varsity team this year are sophomores Katie Upthagrove, Mia Barrett, and McKenzie Henneberry. Senior Erin Brezovar and Junior Maddie Toboyek have returned this year as #1 doubles and continue to impress with many wins and only 2 losses. Other returning players include Megan Lambrecht-Scasny and Stephanie Yerges as #2 doubles and #3 singles Michelle Pan. Coach Vogel stated, “The talents of all these girls combined to give us a thrilling victory over Arrowhead this year winning 6-1.” It’s evident that the Varsity team has had an outstanding season and Vogel couldn’t be prouder. As of now, the team has just competed in a conference tournament against the other teams in the Classic Eight division (Waukesha North, Waukesha South, Waukesha West, Arrowhead, Oconomowoc, Kettle Moraine, and Catholic Memorial) and placed first, taking the title of conference champions! As the season slowly starts to come to a close, hopefully the next years Varsity team will maintain their amazing record or improve their skills. With all these talented girls on the team, it shouldn’t be much of a challenge.
